Kev in a Galaxy of Madness

May the Multiverse be with you!

One day, I’ll get a bit more regular with these newsletters! As it turns out, being a working dad of three kids who have very active social lives (while still trying to maintain my own social life and work on the various projects I have going on) is kind of time-consuming. Who would have thought? On the bright side, the house is coming along nicely—save for the new furniture we’re waiting on (c’mon 5/24!) and curtains, the living room is done (well, we do need to hang a bunch of pictures, but I’m waiting on said furniture before doing so). The kitchen/dining room (technically two different rooms, but it’s an open floor plan) just needs a box cleared out and some stuff hung (oh, and curtains—you’ll sense a theme here). Everything downstairs is pretty much done, save for the family room—which became our dumping ground. Upstairs is pretty much done save for straightening up clutter in all the rooms, hanging some things, and (yep, you guessed it) curtains. Who knows, maybe by the 6-month mark we’ll be done??

Other than the house, the last month or so has been dedicated to soccer games (and practice) and getting ready for Logan’s first birthday, as well as Aubrey’s eighth birthday. Now, those birthdays have already happened and Aubs’s party has as well. We’re gearing up for our third (and likely final) first birthday party this weekend, which should be a lot of fun.

May Birthdays, May Madness, May the Fourth be With You

Aside from May being a busy month for us personally, it’s usually big in the entertainment world. It’s the start of the Summer Blockbuster season (Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness kicked us off this year) and it’s the month we all celebrate a Galaxy Far, Far away. This year is pretty big—it’s not just the month that houses Star Wars day (May the Fourth be with you), but it’s also going to be the 45th anniversary of when Star Wars was first released in theaters. THAT’S NOT ALL… Obi-Wan Kenobi will also be debuting this year on Disney+!

I’ve got two things to share with y’all that I’m pretty proud of:

  1. For those that don’t know, I write for some other sites outside of my own projects. One of those sites is Bam Smack POW, a pop-culture/comic book (movie/TV) news/fansite. I recently wrote an article speculating if Scarlet Witch could beat Doctor Strange (I have a follow-up planned, hoping to get it submitted and up this week). It is by far the most popular thing I’ve ever written and I’m pretty proud of that. Check it out, and let me know what you think!

  2. I also love doing speaking events. Normally, these happen at conventions and I’m on stage with a few others to take the pressure off me. However, Nerd Nite Philly hosted a special Star Wars night where I was able to give a talk about one of my favorite franchises. I spoke about how the future of Star Wars is on the small screen, which I also summarized for another site I write for, Dork Side of the Force.

Never Tell Me the Pods

Wait, that’s actually a podcast! Not one of mine, but it’s hosted by some awesome folks. We began production on a few things this week:

  • Single Player, which I tried to launch last year, is officially in production. I’ve got the first game, for another session 0, that I’m going to play ready to go for tonight. I’ve also found some very handy tools to help flesh out the story/world I’m building with the show. The plan is to get about 4-6 episodes in the can before we start releasing so that we have a good bank.

  • Walking with Writers: WHAT IS THIS. Yeah, this came out of nowhere. Well, no, not nowhere. A desire to interview people again, but not in the same way we did it on Everything is Awesome (which, I still think has a place and may come back in some fashion down the road). On Awesome, it was very upbeat, and let’s talk about whatever, but also what do you do and why do you do it. Which is great! I love that show! But I’ve been listening to a lot of Inside of You with Michael Rosenbaum and damn, he’s a great interviewer. While we’ll have fun on Walking with Writers, the goal is to get deep. Talk about the good, yes, but also about the struggles. And while we won’t be doing much walking on this first iteration of the show, Walking with Writers was conceived as a video show that we’re going to build to. For now, just honest conversations with writers of all kinds. We’ve booked two guests who we’ll start recording next week. My game plan is to get a couple in the bank, though maybe only 2-3 before we start releasing them.

  • The The Muppet Show Show. Boy… this is a hard one to crack. I’ve recorded episode 0, but need to get things moving on this for real. That’s the plan for this week, HARD pre-production that leads right into production. However, we’ll likely record an entire first season of this show before release… looking at the calendar and some anniversary dates, I have a debut date in mind—I’ll keep y’all posted.

Beyond all this, I’m about to wrap up the design of our website so I can also open up our storefront for shirts—speaking of, I’ll be dropping an early newsletter next week with details about our next design in the Summer Teacher Collection. If you’re a teacher, know a teacher, or are looking for an end-of-year gift for your kid's teacher, keep your eyes peeled!
